Syris Valentine is a writer who explores social justice and the climate crisis through essays, journalism, and fiction writing.
Born and raised in Washington State, Syris attended Seattle’s University of Washington where he studied Earth and Space Sciences, and began to dip his toes into activism and community organizing.
After graduating, Syris jumped from the world of space tech into communty-focused green development and spent three years as Co-Chair of Seattle’s Green New Deal Oversight Board before settling into a career as a professional writer.
All of these prior experiences meld in their writing as they traverse the intersections of politics, economy, ecology and technology, with a compass pointed toward justice.
Syris’s work has been published in outlets like Scientific American, Grist, YES! Magazine, and The South Seattle Emerald.
