Designed by anonymous Tumblr user 2Sanon in 2016, the Two-Spirit Pride Flag combines symbols of both Indigenous and LGBTQ+ communities.
The flag is not an official agreed-upon design, but it is the most commonly seen Two-Spirit Pride Flag.
The two feathers signify masculine and feminine energies, while the circle indicates oneness. The symbol is usually placed atop a Rainbow Pride Flag, but it can also be seen over Transgender, Nonbinary, or Progress Pride Flags.
Colors
The symbols of the Two-Spirit Pride Flag each represent a different concept:
- Rainbow: Represents the connectedness of two-spirit individuals within the broader LGBTQ+ community
- Two Feathers: Symbolize the blending of masculine and feminine spirits, as well as the spiritual nature of two-spirit individuals within their Indigenous communities
What Does It Mean If Someone Is Two-Spirit?
“Two-Spirit” is a term used in the Native American and Indigenous communities, referring to someone who has both a masculine and feminine spirit. It has revered cultural significance in Native American tribes.
